Getting There

Kigali International Airport (KGL) is the gateway to Rwanda and a rising regional hub, served by RwandAir alongside Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, KLM, Brussels Airlines, Ethiopian, Kenya Airways, and others. Connections through Doha, Istanbul, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Brussels make Kigali reachable from most of the world in a single connection.

From the airport to the city:

The airport is only about 10 km from the city center—roughly 15–20 minutes by car, one of the shortest airport transfers of any capital. Use Yego Cabs (the metered local ride-hailing service), a registered airport taxi, or your hotel’s pickup. Arrival is smooth and orderly.

Visa on arrival is available to all nationalities, which removes the usual pre-trip friction—though checking the Irembo portal in advance is still wise.

Getting Around

Ride-hailing (Yego): The Yego app handles both cars (Yego Cabs) and the city’s famous moto-taxis (Yego Moto). Cars are the comfortable choice for conference travel; metered, affordable, and reliable.

Moto-taxis: Kigali runs on motorbike taxis, and they’re a quick, cheap, and genuinely useful way to beat the hills for short hops—helmets are provided and required by law. Many visitors use them once they’re comfortable; for first-timers in business attire, a car is easier.

Walking: Central areas are walkable and safe, though Kigali’s hills mean some routes are steeper than they look on a map. The city is famously clean and pleasant on foot.

Car hire/driver: For multi-day trips with several venues or meetings, a hired car with driver is inexpensive and removes all friction.

Kimihurura / near the Convention Centre The most convenient base for the Inclusive Fintech Forum. The Radisson Blu is attached to the Convention Centre itself; other upscale hotels cluster nearby. Staying here means you walk to the venue.

City center (Nyarugenge / CBD) The commercial heart, close to business districts and dining, a short ride from the Convention Centre.

Kiyovu / Nyarutarama Leafy, upscale residential areas with boutique hotels and good restaurants—quieter bases popular with longer-stay business travelers. Nyarutarama is near the golf course and a number of embassies.

Kigali is compact, so no hotel is far from anything—but staying near the Convention Centre is the efficient choice for a forum-focused trip.

• Embrace mobile money. MTN MoMo and Airtel Money are everywhere; a local SIM gives you data and access to the payment rails the conference is literally about.
• Pack a light layer. Kigali’s altitude makes evenings cool despite the equatorial location; days are mild, not hot.
• Respect the clean-city ethos. Plastic bags are banned and littering is taken seriously. The last Saturday of each month is Umuganda, a national community-cleaning morning when some services pause until midday.
