Miami has quietly become a serious finance city. Long the gateway between US and Latin American capital, it added a wave of relocated funds, fintechs, and crypto firms in recent years, and the global industry has taken notice—Sibos, the financial sector’s largest annual gathering, comes to Miami Beach in 2026. For anyone whose work spans the Americas, Miami is an increasingly natural place to convene.
It’s also a city that rewards a little planning: Miami Beach and mainland Miami are separate places connected by causeways, it’s car-dependent, and where you stay relative to your venue makes a real difference. Here’s how to do a conference here well.
Key Fintech Events in Miami
Sibos — September 28–October 1, 2026 | Miami Beach Convention Center The largest annual conference for the global financial industry, organized by Swift, bringing 10,000+ senior executives from banks, market infrastructures, regulators, and technology vendors. Miami 2026 is the first US East Coast Sibos in recent years, with one of the largest exhibition floors in the conference’s history. Coverage spans cross-border payments, ISO 20022, instant payments, securities settlement, financial crime, and digital assets.
Miami’s position as the US–LatAm finance gateway also makes it a regular host for hemispheric banking, payments, and crypto events through the cooler season.
Getting There
Miami International Airport (MIA) is the primary gateway and one of the busiest US airports for international and Latin American traffic—you’ll find direct flights from across Europe, Latin America, and the US. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL), about 45 minutes north, is a solid alternative that’s often cheaper.
From MIA to Miami Beach:
- Taxi / Uber / Lyft: the practical choice, 20–40 minutes to Miami Beach depending on traffic and exact destination (around 15 km).
- Public transit: the Metrorail and Metromover serve mainland Downtown and Brickell but not Miami Beach—there is no direct rail to the beach, so don’t plan on transit for a Convention Center trip.
If your event is at the Miami Beach Convention Center, factor the causeway crossing into every airport and mainland trip.
Getting Around
Uber & Lyft: The default for visitors. Miami is spread out and car-centric, and ride-hailing is the simplest way to move between the beach, Downtown, Brickell, and the airport.
On Miami Beach: The free Miami Beach Trolley loops through South Beach and is handy for short hops, and South Beach itself is very walkable—if you stay near the Convention Center you can walk to sessions and most dinners.
Mainland (Downtown/Brickell): The free Metromover is a genuinely useful elevated loop around Downtown and Brickell, and the Metrorail connects to the airport—relevant only if your hotel or meetings are on the mainland.
Driving: Possible but rarely worth it for a conference—parking on Miami Beach is scarce and expensive, and ride-hailing is easier.
Where to Stay
South Beach / near the Miami Beach Convention Center — best for Sibos Staying in South Beach within walking distance of the Convention Center is the efficient choice. Collins Avenue and the surrounding blocks are dense with hotels at every level, from the Art Deco classics to the big convention hotels. You’ll walk to sessions and have the restaurants and nightlife of South Beach on your doorstep.
Mid-Beach A short ride north of the Convention Center, quieter and home to several large resort hotels—good if South Beach is sold out or you want a calmer base.
Brickell (mainland financial district) Miami’s banking and finance core—gleaming high-rises, excellent restaurants, and the natural home for finance-sector meetings. It’s a 15–25 minute ride from the Convention Center across the causeway, so it’s a trade-off: better for mainland business, less convenient for the venue.
Downtown Miami Adjacent to Brickell, on the free Metromover, with a range of business hotels and easy mainland access.
For a Sibos-focused trip, South Beach near the Convention Center wins on convenience.
Essential Tips for Miami Conferences
- Sort your ESTA or visa early. Visa Waiver travelers need an approved ESTA before flying; B-1 visa applicants should apply well ahead.
- Respect the geography. Miami Beach and mainland Miami are separated by water and causeways. A hotel “in Miami” might be a 30-minute ride from a Miami Beach venue—check the map before booking.
- Walk South Beach, ride everywhere else. Near the Convention Center you can walk; for anything across a causeway, use Uber/Lyft.
- Pack for heat and air-conditioning. Late September is warm and humid outside and frigid inside venues—bring a layer.
- Book early and expect US peak pricing. Sibos fills Miami Beach hotels; reserve well ahead, and budget for US-level conference-week rates.
After Hours & Networking Spots
South Beach is built for evenings—Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road, and the surrounding blocks are wall-to-wall restaurants, rooftop bars, and lounges, much of it walkable from the Convention Center. For more business-toned dinners, the steakhouses and waterfront restaurants of Brickell and Downtown are the mainland choice. Miami’s bilingual, US–LatAm character shows up in the networking: expect a genuinely international crowd, and a lot of Spanish alongside English. As at any Sibos, much of the real value happens at the bank-hosted receptions, partner dinners, and fringe events that surround the official program—watch the run-up scheduling.
Practical Information
- Currency: US Dollar ($). Cards and mobile payments accepted everywhere; little need for cash.
- Language: English and Spanish are both widely spoken; Miami is effectively bilingual.
- Time zone: Eastern Time (UTC−5 / UTC−4 in summer).
- Electricity: 120V, plug types A/B (US standard)—non-US visitors need an adapter and dual-voltage devices.
- Visa: ESTA for Visa Waiver Program countries; B-1 business visa otherwise.
- Climate: Warm and humid; most comfortable Oct–Apr; late-September Sibos is at the end of hurricane season.
