EBAday
About This Event
EBAday is the annual flagship conference of the Euro Banking Association (EBA Association), organised in partnership with Finextra. Each year it brings together ~1,400 senior payments and transaction banking executives from European and global banks for two days of strategic discussion on cross-border payments, real-time settlement, transaction banking, and the regulatory direction of European money movement.
The 2026 theme — "The New Payments Landscape: Navigating Change in 2026 and Beyond" — frames the year's agenda around the operational reality of the SCT Inst mandate, PSD3/PSR, the digital euro consultation, and the broader transformation of European payments infrastructure. It sits alongside Money20/20 Europe, Money in Transition: Digitalisation and Innovation in Payments and Il Salone dei Pagamenti as calendar anchors for the same audiences.
What happens at EBAday
- Strategic conference programme — keynotes from European bank CEOs and senior infrastructure operators, panel debates on the year's defining payments questions, and deep-dive working sessions for practitioners. Content is consistently senior and operationally relevant.
- Exhibition — European PSPs, fintechs, infrastructure providers, payments-technology vendors, and consultancies meet face-to-face. EBAday is one of the few European events where Eurosystem central banks, EBA Clearing, and the commercial banking community all share floor time.
- Networking — structured business meetings, EBA member sessions, and the dinners and side events that have made EBAday the European payments community's annual reunion.
Who attends
Heads of payments, transaction banking, cash management, correspondent banking, and treasury operations at European and global banks (Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas, ING, Santander, UniCredit, Nordea, Société Générale, Intesa Sanpaolo, KBC, Erste, Raiffeisen, ABN AMRO). Senior staff from European infrastructure operators (EBA Clearing, TARGET, STEP2). ECB and national central bank representatives. Payments-technology vendors and core-banking platform providers. Heads of compliance and financial crime. EBA Association member community across European banks. Senior fintech operators focused on B2B payments and transaction banking.
EBAday is distinct from Sibos (Swift-centric, global, 12,000+) and from consumer-fintech events like Money20/20 Europe. It is the European transaction-banking community's annual planning forum — narrower in scope, deeper in seniority, and more directly tied to the policy direction of the Eurosystem.
Dominant themes at EBAday 2026
- SEPA Instant Credit Transfer (SCT Inst) mandate — operational realities of universal reachability and 10-second settlement across the eurozone.
- PSD3 and the Payment Services Regulation (PSR) — implementation timelines, perimeter changes, liability frameworks.
- Verification of Payee (VoP) and Confirmation of Payee — operational rollout under the SCT Inst regulation.
- Cross-border payments — G20 roadmap, IXB (Immediate Cross-Border Payments) interlinking, RT1 / TIPS interoperability.
- ISO 20022 migration — the FIN-to-MX cutover for cross-border, MX message adoption in European market infrastructures.
- Digital euro — wholesale and retail design progress, intermediation models, impact on payment service providers.
- Open Finance and PSD3 data access — premium APIs, data-sharing extensions beyond accounts.
- Operational resilience and DORA — the Digital Operational Resilience Act, third-party risk, ICT incident reporting.
- AI in payments and transaction banking — operational AI, sanctions and fraud screening, generative AI in customer service.
Planning to attend
The Bella Centre is in Copenhagen's Ørestad district, 10 minutes by metro from the city centre and a direct line from Copenhagen Airport. Hotels in Ørestad fill earliest; central Copenhagen (Vesterbro, Indre By, Nørrebro) adds a 15–20 minute metro ride but offers more dinner-and-meeting flexibility. The EBA member dinner and several major bank-hosted side events are typically held in central Copenhagen — staying centrally helps if your evenings are scheduled. For attendees travelling from major European cities, direct flights from Frankfurt, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, and Milan are 1.5–2.5 hours. Copenhagen's fintech calendar continues with Nordic Fintech Week each September.
