NRF: Retail's Big Show
About This Event
NRF Big Show is the largest retail industry event in the world, hosted by the US National Retail Federation in New York each January and acting as the central trade event for the global retail technology and operations ecosystem. It sits alongside NRF: Retail's Big Show Europe, Shoptalk Fall and NRF: Retail's Big Show Asia Pacific as calendar anchors for the same audiences.
What happens
Four days of multi-track conference content cover every major dimension of US and global retail, with stages dedicated to grocery, fashion, consumer electronics, beauty, restaurants, convenience and emerging categories. The Javits Center exhibition floor is among the largest of any trade show globally, combining incumbent retail technology vendors with rapidly growing startups. Executive-level closed sessions run alongside the main conference content for senior retail leadership. Pitch competitions, awards programmes and structured industry-association meetings extend the conference well beyond the main agenda. Side events across midtown Manhattan continue into evenings.
Who attends
The audience is the most senior gathering of retail leadership anywhere in the year: CEOs and senior operating teams from the largest US and global retailers, chief technology, digital, supply chain and customer officers from the same companies, e-commerce and marketplace platform leadership, retail technology buyers from chains across the world, and substantial vendor presence from every major retail technology category. International visitors come from across Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, making it the closest the global retail industry comes to a single physical centre.
Dominant themes
The agenda emphasises the practical operating priorities of US and global retail: AI applications in merchandising, customer service, demand forecasting and supply chain optimisation; the continued evolution of omnichannel as the assumed baseline; the role of marketplaces and platform business models; loyalty and customer-data strategy under tightening privacy regulation; workforce technology and the labour market realities of retail operations; sustainability and circular-economy commitments; supply chain resilience; and retail payments innovation including instant payment acceptance, tokenisation and the role of Buy Now Pay Later. Each edition surfaces a handful of category-defining product launches.
Planning to attend
New York in mid-January combines cold weather with peak conference demand; book hotels early and expect midtown and west-side accommodation to fill first. The Javits Center is on the Hudson River and most accessible from midtown by walking, taxi or shuttle bus. The conference itself is too large to navigate without a clear pre-event plan; identify priority sessions, vendor meetings and side events ahead. International visitors should plan for the time-zone reset and expect a high-tempo four days. Restaurant and reception availability tightens during conference week.
