PAYTECHSHOW
About This Event
PAYTECHSHOW is the annual gathering of the Hungarian electronic-payments industry, organised by Fintechzone and bringing together the country's payment service providers, banks, card networks, processors, merchants and regulators for a focused single-day programme. It sits alongside TechShow X, BANKTECHSHOW and FINTECHSHOW as calendar anchors for the same audiences.
What happens
A morning of plenary sessions sets the agenda on the year's biggest payment-industry shifts in Hungary and the wider CEE region, followed by parallel tracks on card payments, instant payments, POS innovation and mobile wallets. The format is deliberately compact — keynote, panel, demo, lunch, breakout — so that delegates can cover the major themes in a single day without the multi-day overhead of larger international shows. Side meetings happen continuously between sessions, and the closing networking reception is where most of the new commercial relationships actually get started.
Who attends
The audience is concentrated in the payment value chain: senior product and strategy roles at Hungarian banks, executives from card schemes and processors, founders of domestic and CEE fintech startups, merchant-acquiring teams, and a regulatory contingent from the Hungarian National Bank. Vendor representation skews toward payment infrastructure, POS hardware, fraud prevention and compliance tooling. Because the event is single-language Hungarian and single-day, it draws a high concentration of decision-makers from the domestic market rather than international observers.
Dominant themes
Each edition emphasises a handful of themes that reflect the immediate priorities of the Hungarian payments market. Instant payments and the rollout of the AFR (Azonnali Fizetési Rendszer) system have been a recurring focus, alongside the migration to ISO 20022 messaging and the practical implications of the EU's Instant Payments Regulation. Card-present innovation — soft POS, tap-to-pay on phones, contactless ceiling adjustments — typically gets its own track, and digital-wallet rollout from regional players features alongside the global brands. Fraud prevention under PSD2 SCA, account-to-account payments and the early conversations around the digital euro round out the programme.
Planning to attend
PAYTECHSHOW is a strong pick for anyone selling into Hungarian banks, working in Hungarian payment compliance, or trying to map the CEE payment-infrastructure landscape from a single trip. The conference language is mostly Hungarian, so non-Hungarian speakers should plan for translation support or focus on the meeting-room time rather than the plenary sessions. Budapest is well-connected by air, central hotels are within walking distance of most venues used over the years, and the city is inexpensive relative to comparable Western European conference destinations — making the total trip cost competitive even for visitors paying full pass price.
